This lab is being written quite long after the fact. It is being written on 9/27/2024. This night is just like the other two I have done so far. We planned on sighting the Moon and Saturn. I encountered a couple of issues, so let's just get right into the photos and explain along the way.
Both of these pictures have the same reoccurring fog issue. This is the same with the Saturn photo that is coming up. One thing that I would like to point out is the specs on the close-up shot. This particulate matter got onto my sensor while switching eyepieces. Yes, that's right. This was taken using lens projection. This worked better than I thought. This was even on a humid night! I am very excited to try this out on a dry night. Another note that I forgot to add earlier. This picture was taken using a reducer to get the Moon fully into view.
I'm posting this image of Saturn to show one thing: atmospheric turbulence. This issue will always be one I have to fight, but I am already coming up with ideas to combat it. I will talk about it more in future observations, as it is all conjecture right now.
